General Information Keewaydin Dunmore Wilderness Canoe Trips have been exploring the wilderness waterways of Quebec with small groups of teenagers for the past 30 years. We travel with a Cree Indian guide, and have observed and adopted many of his methods of travel in the wilderness. On these trips we are able to learn from someone who has spent his lifetime in the bush; whose relationship with the land is closer and more personal than ours. Each trip consists of 10-12 people, including two trip leaders and a Cree guide. The trip to Ungava Bay is outside of Cree territory, and therefore does not utilize a guide, but travels with two senior trip leaders. The trip group functions much like a family, sharing the tasks of day-to-day living. Each individual contributes his strengths to the group's efforts, and can also explore new ideas and gain new skills. As one parent said, "These trips provide the freedom, the challenge, and the opportunity to have an experience that is directly dependent upon your own efforts." One tripper wrote, "I liked the whole idea of the trip: a balance between physical and mental exercise, living in the wilderness, the responsibility for oneself, and an opportunity to live and work with a group of new friends. They offer something personal, too, that goes beyond pride and accomplishments, but is hard to explain." Exact itineraries depend on the advice of our guide, condition of the rivers, and ability of the trippers. In the event of insufficient enrollment, a trip may be canceled.
